Galwegians come out on top in a Connaught senior league against Corinthians at Glenina on Saturday morning. The game was played in very blustery conditions which aided the visitors in the first half.Corinthians got on the score after five minutes when the Glenina outfit were penalized for infringing.Center Wayne WillIams converted same.Wegians got on the score board after fifteen minutes when the Cloonacauneen outfit were unable to get out of there twentyfive with the home side second row Liam Scahill picking up a loose ball and laying it off to prop Jamie Stephens to touchdown out wide. The home side got in for another try with a fine individual effort by center Owen McKeane after slack defence by the visitors winger John Cleary added the extras. This left the Glenina side leading by twelve points to three at the break.

Galwegians with the wind behind them in the second half looked as if they would pull away and win easily especially with Clarke slotting a penalty early in the half. But due credit to Corinthians they keeped slogging away and were rewarded with a fine try by captain Fionn Gormley which was unconverted. That ended the scoring for both sides but as usually when these two city sides meet there is always a bit of handbag stuff and this was no exception but referee Dave Connolly kept a tight reign on the game.Eventully the final whistle went with the Division 1 side coming out on top.

Corinthians next outing in the League is at home to Connamara on Friday Sept 16th at 7.30pm.
