Corinthians 19 – Galwegians 18
Corinthians finished off the season well in retaining the senior cup against the ould enemy Galwegaines.The venue was Cloonacauneen and Wegains started off well with ex Corinthian player Dave Clarke putting the visitors ahead in the fifth minute.
Corinthians struck back after centre Eoin Griffen picked up a loose ball for scrumhalf Mark Dolan to get in for the touch down. Hugh Griffen landed another penalty midway in the first half before Clarke struck back before the break after Corinthians were penalised for foul play.
The home side had it all to play for with a big wind against them in the second half and Wegians gained the upper hand with centre Brian Murphy getting in for a touch down and Clarke converted another penalty after Corinthians second row Gary Ward was sin binned for foul play.
Galwegians were leading by thirteen points to eight at this stage and winger John Cleary got in to score in the corner and it looked all over for Corinthians after they had another player sin binned.The Cloonacauneen outfit held out under great pressure and fought back with great resillence and got back into the game with two fine penaltys by outhalf Shane Muallaly after great work by loose head Catheal O Shea and flanker Sean Geraty.
After great great defence work Corinthians with a full compliment back on the pitch got back into the Dublin Road outfit half in the final minute for full back Darren Classens got in for a great touch down for Corinthians to retain that great trophy by nineteen points to eighteen.
