The Corinthians Under 14’s played Castlebar at the Sportsground on
Saturday in the Connacht Cup Final, winning 26-20, with an excellent
performance. Corinthians started well, gaining an early 14 -0
advantage after 20 minutes. The first try was an excellent team try, well
worked from a lineout on the right hand side, taking the ball through the
phases and scoring under the posts. The second was also an excellent
team try, similar in construction to the first. However Castlebar came
back strong from the kick-off, resulting in Corinthians turning over the
ball and conceding a try, making the score 14-5. But a third try was a
piece of individual brilliance from Paudie Maccormaic who took an
incept just inside the opposition’s half and sprinted to score under the
posts. Colm De Buitler converted all three tries for Corinthians who went
into half-time with a lead of 21- 5.
Castlebar fought back hard in the second half, and though they scored
two tries and exerted a lot of pressure, Corinthians showed great
resilience and courage and scored a fourth try, winning the game 26-20.
This caps an outstanding season for the U14’s and is reward for all the
hard work put in by the players, coaches, and manager. Congratulations!
Scorers: James Colohan 2 tries, Paudie Maccormaic 1 try, Cian Quinn 1
try, Colm Debuitler 3 cons.
