Corinthians had a well deserved win against visiting Midleton in Cloonacauneen Park on Saturday playing in terrible conditions.The home side started brightly with the conditions in there favour and attacked at every opportunity with veteran scrum half Mick Roche egging the pack on. After two chances going a begging Duignan’s outfit got on the score board with good rucked ball swept out to fullback Darren Classens with winger Fionn Gormley on his hip to receive the pass and touch down in the corner Shane Mulally playing at outhalf missed the conversion.The home side again pinned the Munster outfit back after gaining possession from the drop off with back rows Pat Cunningham and Mick McComish driving forward and the Midleton pack killing the ball referee Mark Hermin(IRFU) had no hesitation in penalizing same with Mulally converting from thirty meters out.Corinthians seemed to switch off after going eight points ahead and Terry Kingston outfit took the bull by the horns with scrum half Ray Smyth slipping in behind the home side cover to touch down fullback James Hitchmough converted same game on.Corinthians again attacked from the off with there front row Denis Buckley Joe Merrigan to the fore but it loose head B Fa’Amausili who got the touch down Mulally converted same.
The Cloonacauneen players were up against it in the second half with the elements deteriotating by the minute and Kingston sending on Cork hurler Dermuid O Sullivan started to pay dividends.Midelton who are within stricking distance of the top four in the league eventually won a good lineout ball and drove forward on same with prop Mick Cronin getting over the try line leaving the score fifteen points to twelve for the home side after Hitchmough missed the convert.But Corinthians were not finished yet as we have seen all season they know how too ground out a win and this they did rucking up the pitch with the visitors again away a penalty and Mulally stepping up to do the business.There was still some time to go but captain Cunningham got his forwards to baton down the hatches in the wind and the rain to claim a mighty victory.
