Corinthians suffered a mighty blow in climbing the Div 2 league table on Saturday against lowy Old Cresent at Rosbrian.The visitors had the advantage of the wind in the first half but started poorly. Old Cresent who were second from the bottom put up a great display to ensure that they retain there status in div two next season.With there pack dominant in the first twenty minutes they were awarded a penalty on the left side of the posts outhalf Frank Lawler struck the ball well against the wind to convert same.From the kick off Cresent gained position again and there pack drove up the pitch setting up Lawler to convert a drop goal.The Cloonacauneen outfit were at sixes and seven at this stage been six nil down and the home side really in control.After thirty minutes of play Cresent got the only try of the game with a grubber kick by scrum half Daighe Fitzgerald for winger Kevin Ryan to get in for the touch down.For the last ten minutes of the first half it was all Corinthians with captain Pat Cunningham urging his charges on with Cresent given two penaltys away which outhalf Shane Mulally converted leaving the home side leading by eleven points to six at the break.

Crescent had the elements behind them for the second half and put more pressure on the visitors who eventually conceded another penalty which Fitxgerald converted.The visitors got there act together at this stage with the pack starting to dominate especially there front row Denis Buckley and Joe Merrigan to the fore but the game dragged on with into the the final ten minutes with Cresent happy to sit on there score.Eventually IRFU ref Ken Henly-Willis sin binned center Cian Begley for foul play and the writing was on the wall as regards the visitors getting any thing out of the game.But Duignans outfit dug deep with Cresent conceding a penalty at the death and sub outhalf Conar Murphy converting same giving Corinthians a losing bonus point for there troubles.Final score Old Cresent fourteen points Corinthians nine.Next outing for Corinthians is a home game against Old Wesley on sat 19th Feb .Kick off 2.30pm.
