Corinthians came out on top in refixed game against Trinity at Santry Sports Complex on Saturday which was given the go ahead by referee Jonathan Peak in atrocious conditions. The visitors had a bit of a hiccup before kickoff as centre Wayne Williams broke down in the prematch warm up but coach Sean Duighan reshuffled the back line with Shane Mullaly slotting in at fullback.Mullaly put the western outfit ahead after ten minutes with an easy penalty in front of posts having missed out on an earlier conversion.Corinthians had the elements behind them but were unable to put any more points on the board due too great work by the Trinity number eight capt Julian McKey and his scrum half Sam Bell.Just before the break the visitors got the try they craved for with a great drive by the pack with hooker Joey Merrigan breaking away and feeding winger Fionn Gormley who got in for the touch down. The try was converted by Mullaly which left the visitors leading by ten points to nil at half time.
The students started well after the break especially as the visitors winger Darren Classens was sin binned for foul play.Fullback James O Donoghue converted a penalty for the home side early in the second half.Trinity were unable to add to there tally as the visitors pack were outstanding driving forward at every opportunity and keeping the game tight but a loose ball here and there put play back in there half again.Trinity got there try in the forth minute of injury time as the ref was unsighted and winger Kieran Wade got in to touch down from an offside position.O Donoghue missed the convert leaving the visitors winning by ten points to eight. This was a hard fought win by Corinthians and it is difficult to single out any player you got to put it down to a fine panel of players ably led by coaches Duignan/Flanagan and captain Pat Cunningham.Next week Corinthians travel to Dungannon for the semi/final of the All IRELAND Cup.
