Corinthians collected their first points of the season after travelling all the way to Midleton in Co Cork.The visitors started brightly enough with IRFU referee Sean Gallagher awarding a penalty for infringing by the home side after five minutes of play.Outhalf Conor Murphy had no problem in converting same from in front of the posts.It was even steven for the next half hour with both packs sizeing each other up,but Midleton were penalized again after flanker Glen Deacon drifted to an off side position Murphy converted from there fifteen meter line.Just before the break the Corinthian front row were judged to have collapsed the scrum, the home side outhalf Peter Brougham had no problem in converting the ensuing penalty leaving three points between them at halftime.
The Towns Park side got their act together after the break with the back line moving the ball out wide at every opportunity which eventually led to the only try of the contest with winger Danny May getting in for the touchdown in the corner Brougham added the extras.Corinthian captain Fionn Gormley kept driving his team forward with his pack gaining another penalty which was again slotted by Murphy,but the gogged Midleton side got going again with Brougham converting another penalty putting four points between the sides.The visitors with a wealth of experience in the pack especially Gary Ward and Pat Cunningham stuck to their task and eventually gained a penalty after great work by their front row pushing Midleton off their own ball. Murphy converted again leaving only a point between the sides.The Cloonacauneen outfit kept the pressure on late into the game with man of the match Murphy slotting his forth penalty after another transgression at the breakdown.Midelton are a tough side with a never say die attitude and well into injury time they were awarded a penalty to win the game but Brougham missed same.Referee Sean Gallagher then blew the final whistle much to the joy of the visiting supporters.
