This Ulster Bank Div 2 contest was a game of two halves with Corinthians dominating the first half and Old Wesley dominant in the second half.The home side started brightly been awarded a penalty and going for the touch line but Wesley turn over the lineout there outhalf Mark Geraghty was slow in clearing and center Cian Begley got in to blockdown the ball to touchdown.Corinthians fullback Shane Mullally converted same.From the kick off the home side out half Conor Murphy gained possession and floated a beautiful high ball down the touch line for winger Darren Classen to receive same and got for the touch down Mullally converted again.Wesley were shell shocked at this stage with only fifteen minutes gone on the clock and the Cloonacauneen outfit were awarded another penalty in front of the visitors posts with Corinthians scrum half Mark Dolan deciding to run the ball and quick hands by Murphy to Begley on to second center Wayne Williams to touch down in the corner.Mullally missed the convert.Murphy was at it again in the twenty fifth minute with a slip ball to under twenty player Angus O Connell who ran in for to score Mullally again converted this left the home side leading by twenty six points to nil after 27 minutes.
The home side though they were home and hoses at this stage but Wesley got there dander up with the pack driving up field and brushing the home team defence aside with tight head Tristan Goodbody grand son of Oliver Goodbody former founder of Corinthians and loosehead John Rowe powering over to touch down under the posts.Wing forward Greg Jacob(capt) converted same.Old Wesley again drove forward just before the break and were awarded a penalty with Jacob again converting this left the home side leading by twentynine points ten at halftime.
As in Limerick last week the Cloonacauneen outfit seemed to switch off in the second half even with referee Trevor Collins(IRFU) sin biining two Wesley players it still did not stop hooker Robert Dempsey cantering over for another try with Jacob missed the convert.With veteran scrum half Mick Roche been brought into the fray the home side seemed to settle but Wesleys pack were on the rampage again with wing forward John Carroll getting in for there third try Jacob converted also.The final try for the Dublin 4 outfit after the home side tried to get touch but winger Alan Large collected the ball and broke through the Corinthian cover to score the bonus point.Jacob converted same leaving the score at full time Corinthians 29—Old Wesley 29.
