Match Report by Brendan Cassiday

Corinthians travelled to Kirwan Park on Saturday to take on Division 2A leaders De La Salle Palmerstown. The visitors got off to a fine start with outhalf Conor Murphy converting a penalty after the home side were penalized for foul play. The Cloonacauneen oufit were again on the score board after fifteen minutes with good work by their pack especially Joey Merrigan and Gary Ward and getting the ball out wide for Irealand U19 fullback Dave Panter to get over in the corner.Murphy was unable to add the extras from the touchline leaving the visitors leading by eight points to nil. With the home side playing against the wind they knuckled down to their task and won a great ball against the head to set set up a quick ball for lock Clive Ross to pick and scramble over for a touch down, outhalf Phil Debarra added the extras.Corinthians went on the attack immediately with their pack driving forward which allowed scrumhalf Kieran Marmion to get good ball out to fullback Panter to touch down for his second try.Just before the break the Palmerstown outfit were awarded a penalty that Debarra converted. This left DLSP trailing by ten points to thirteen as IRFU referee Mark Kermin blew the half time whistle. On Saturday Nov 26th two very spirited sides met each other in the worst of conditions in Sligo. Corinthians Blues travelled to meet Sligo and despite the terrible weather both sides endeavoured to play open rugby. With tries by Morgan O Brien and Harry O Donghaile  Corinthians led at half time 12 – 7. Sligo came out fighting in the second half, scoring a great try and converting to lead the game 14 -12. 10 minutes into the second half Corinthians soaked up great pressure and defended on their own line. With 10 minutes to go until the final whistle they bravely turned down a penalty on the Sligo line to take a scrum and Liam Mc Donagh scored a great try. With only a few minutes to go Gary Collumb scored an intercept try to finish the game off. Ross Mahon had a great game scoring 3 conversions from 4 in very difficult conditions. Final score was 26 -14 to Corinthians.

In extremely difficult playing conditions our u17s earned a well needed
victory away to Ballinasloe last Sunday. Ballinasloe made the most of
the wind advantage scoring an early try. The Corinthians then worked
hard to retain possession and territory. They were rewarded when Ben
Creaven slotted a penalty before half time leaving the score 5-3 at
the break. In the second half the Corinthians forwards pushed on. Craig
Hansberry finished a well worked mauling try that had involved the
entire pack. The Corinthians held out a late surge to seal the victory
 8 points to Ballinasloe's 5.
